Citing Lack of Books - Chicago Community Builds Handgun Lending Library

Since books are nowhere to be found and are impossible for local youths to get, East Garfield Park Community Organizer Iza Walker has decided instead to focus on building a Handgun Lending Library. "It's not what you think." She said. "Our community is riddled with violence, and if these kids can protect themselves by borrowing a gun, then maybe they'll live long enough to finally see a book."

In the one month period from November 9^th to December 9^th of this year alone, East Garfield Park has had 7 Homicides, a quarter of the 2016 total. In contrast, only 3 books were available to the entire community.

She later added, "Sure, we'd love to get books in our community, but they're just so hard to find. It's not like you can just go to the library and get one."
